Denise Gundersen, R.N.
My name is Denise Gundersen and I graduated from Samuel Merritt University in 1979. I worked a year at SMH and then moved to Norway. I worked in my husband’s ENT clinic until we moved back to California. I took some time off to be “just a mom” to my 3 kids and volunteered at pretty much every school and extracurricular activity they were involved in. After a re-entry nursing program at Chico State, I began work on a busy surgical unit at Feather River Hospital. I loved the small rural hospital where many of my patients and coworkers were friends, I would see around our Ridge community. As charge nurse I joined numerous committees over the years at FRH, always with the goal to give the best care possible to our patients and maintain an excellent work environment for my co-workers.
The Camp Fire was totally devastating in so many ways. 1300 employees at FRH lost the job most of us loved when the hospital was severely damaged. To volunteer in the shelter and now with our clinic is again caring for my neighbors and friends. It is a profound honor in my long nursing career.
